WordPress Error : Destination Folder Already Exists

If you are trying to install WordPress theme or plugins sometime you noticed a error ” Destination Folder Already Exists” and with this error your installation process get stopped.

In this article I will show you how to fix the Destination folder already exists error in WordPress.

Destination Folder Already Exists Error

This error appears when you try to install WordPress theme or plugins. During installation WordPress extract your theme or plugin’s zip file into a folder named after the file itself.

If there is a folder with the same name, WordPress aborts the installation with the below error:

Destination folder already exists. /var/www/html/wp-content/plugins/lookforms/
Plugin install failed. ”

First check plugin or theme if it is already installed on the server to do this you have to visit your admin page.

If plugin is not installed on the server means previous attempt to delete the plugin or theme did’t succeed and it left the plugin/theme folder behind.

In this case there is a folder with the same name as the theme or plugin you are trying to install.

Fix Destination Folder Already Exists Error in WordPress

First of all you will need to connect to your server using an FTP client or cPanel File Manager.

After connected go to /wp-content/plugins/ or /wp-content/theme/folder_name which you want to delete.

Now delete the folder name that you are trying to install.

You have to go again in your WordPress admin area and retry to install the plugin or  theme like you would normally

do. At this time you should be able to install WordPress plugin or theme without facing any error.
